ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – In its final exhibition contest of 2018, the No. 16 UCF women's soccer team heads to Jacksonville on Sunday to face North Florida. Admission is free for the noon contest at Hodges Stadium.
The Knights and Ospreys have met just twice during the regular season. UCF is 2-0 against North Florida, including a 5-0 victory in the last meeting in 2013.
UCF returns to action after picking up a 2-0 victory over Wyoming in an exhibition on Aug. 9 at the UCF Soccer Complex. Both of the Black and Gold goals came at the feet of UCF newcomers in the second 30-minute period. Asia Ervin fed a pass into Konya Plummer, who put the Knights up 1-0. Just four minutes later, Mathilde Kack doubled the advantage off a corner kick.
Defensively, the Knights allowed just four shots during 90 minutes of action. MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List honoree and The American Preseason Goalkeeper of the Year Vera Varis earned the starting nod in goal, while Chloe N’gazi and Caroline DeLisle each played 30 minutes of action for the shutout.
North Florida will play its first contest of 2018. The Ospreys posted a 9-6-1 record in 2017. ASUN Freshman of the Year in Thais Reiss, all-conference honoree Krista Colubiale and all-rookie selections Andrea Sanchez and Amber Jones returns for UNF this season.
The Knights officially open the 2018 campaign on Aug. 19, hosting FGCU at the UCF Soccer Complex at 6 p.m.
