ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – As the Major League Baseball season wraps up its first quarter of games, several former UCF baseball players have been making their marks in the various levels of the professional game.
Dan Winkler has continued to dominate out of the bullpen for the Atlanta Braves. The righty has appeared in 19 games, throwing 17 2/3 innings, for an ERA of 1.02. Winkler has fanned 25 batters this season, compared to just five walks. He has surrendered two earned runs this year and opponents are hitting .119 against him. Winkler holds the eighth lowest ERA in Major League Baseball for pitchers with at least 15 innings of work this season.
Another reliever that has made a name for himself in his new home is Chase Bradford. The hulking righty is 3-0 on the year with a 2.81 ERA over 13 games. Bradford has fanned 13 batters in 16 innings of work, while giving up just four walks.
A pair of position players have made their way through the ranks up to Triple-A. Beau Taylor, who his eighth year in the Oakland Athletics organization, is hitting .288 through 26 games with the Nashville Sounds. The catcher has driven in 11 RBI and walked 17 times.
Dylan Moore opened the year with the Biloxi Shuckers, the Double-A affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers. The second baseman caught fire in the first 24 games with a .373 clip at the plate, a .429 on-base percentage, a .639 slugging percentage and 18 RBI. Moore was called up to the Triple-A Colorado Springs Sky Sox on May 10.
Jason Bahr has cemented himself in the starting rotation for the Augusta GreenJackets in Single-A. The lanky righty posted a 1.77 ERA through seven starts. Bahr has tossed 35 2/3 innings with 49 strikeouts and 11 walks to tally a 3-2 record.
