WINTER PARK, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – For the eighth straight year, the UCF rowing team collected the Robin Yeuell Trophy at the Metro Cup. The Knights swept all five events on Lake Maitland on Saturday morning.
Despite battling whitecaps and a rough middle 1,000-meters, the Knights raced a pair of boats in each event and took first and second in all five races.
The Varsity Eight Gold boat, consisting of Nicole Mayer, Viktorija Senkute, Mia Cleary, Julie Poulsen, Ieva Medelinskaite, Rusne Dziugyte, Sydney Hays, Abbie Pritchard and Shannon Perry, won by the slimmest of margins, crossing the line in 6:33.2.
The Varsity Eight Black boat, consisting of Catherine Harms, Edvina Nesukaityte, Rachel Rabinowitz, Grace Lindberg, Marija Medelinskaite, Leslie Lajoie, Luci Derrick, Lara Maule and Zana Krakic, came in just behind the gold squad with a time of 6:33.3.
The Second Varsity Eight Gold boat, consisting of Alexis Greer, Alyssa Ramos, Michaela Gundrum, Paula Parks, Caitlin Ross, Eileen Acken, Maria Yim, Jessica Matteson and Jordan Jahosky, won with a time of 6:55.4.
The Second Varsity Eight Black boat, consisting of Taylor Jenko, Danielle Wilson, Aly Derksen, Magdalena Pasternak, Darby Brooks, Caitlin Thompson, Jacinta Kendall, Anna Edkins and Nicole Snyder, finished second with a time of 6:58.4.
The Varsity Four Gold boat, consisting of Nicole Mayer, Viktorija Senkute, Mia Cleary, Julie Poulsen and Ieva Medelinskaite, won with a time of 7:09.3.
The Varsity Four Black boat, consisting of Catherine Harms, Edvina Nesukaityte, Marija Medelinskaite, Grace Lindberg and Zana Krakic, finished just behind the gold squad with a time of 7:10.6.
The Second Varsity Four Black boat, consisting of Jillian Jernas, Danielle Wilson, Aly Derksen, Magdalena Pasternak and Darby Brooks, crossed the line with a winning time of 7:34.3.
The Second Varsity Four Gold boat, consisting of Alyssa Ramos, Michaela Gundrum, Paula Parks, Caitlin Ross and Alexis Greer, finished second with a time of 7:46.1.
The Novice Four Black boat, consisting of Melissa Hebel, Caitlin Thompson, Tatum Cox, Anna Edkins and Jennifer Barnes, won with a time of 7:43.8.
The Novice Four Gold boat, consisting of Ciera Jarrett, Jessica Matteson, Jessica Scales, Rhiannon Timpko and Katherine Goetz, finished second with a time of 7:46.5.
UCF returns to action on March 16, hosting UConn and Jacksonville on Lake Pickett.
