Bitten by the Tigers

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (UCFKnights.com) - UCF senior shortstop Brittany Solis was all over the infield, tying a pair of career-bests with six putouts and six assists, while helping turn two double plays. The effort wasn't enough as the Knights dropped a 10-2 decision in six innings at Memphis on Friday evening at the Tigers Softball Complex.

The Knights pounded out nine base knocks and were led by two-hit games from senior Linnea Goodman, sophomore Cassady Brewer, freshmen Jazmine Esparza and Kyra Klarkowski. Brewer tallied two doubles, including a run-scoring two-bagger off the fence in left during the fifth frame.

Solis drove in a run on a sac fly and moved into a tie for first on the program's career charts with nine alongside Kalyn Cenal (2013-16) and Hillary Barrow (2007-10).

Solis Is Special at Short

  • Senior Brittany Solis made numerous plays at shortstop to lead the Knights' defense, tying a career-best with six putouts and six assists.
  • The West Hills, Calif., native turned two double plays on ground balls up the middle and helped erase two base runners stealing on throws by freshman catcher Autumn Gillespie.
  • Solis halted a rally in the third inning by fielding a ground ball, touching second base and tossing to sophomore first baseman Cassady Brewer.
  • A phenomenal diving stop was made by Solis to end the third inning, which included a nifty flip to junior second baseman Courtney Rotton.
  • She started her second double play to put two outs on the board in the fifth inning by stepping on second base and throwing a dart to first.
