ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com)-- Seven of the 12 UCF men's tennis team members competed in the ITF F7 Futures tournament at the USTA National Campus. Four Knights have advanced to the third round of qualifying.
In the first round of qualifying, four Knights won their matches. Sophomore Kalman Boyd started the group off with a 7-5, 7-6(2) victory over Jordi Redelijk. Junior Korey Lovett upended the 12th-seeded Boris Arias, 7-5, 6-3, while freshman Enrique Paya defeated Edan Bakshi, 7-5, 6-2. Redshirt senior Harrison Richmond added a 7-5, 6-1 win over Kento Tagashira.
Senior Chris Barrus dropped a tight 6-7 (6), 7-6 (5), 6-1 decision to Lucas Renard, while senior Mariano Porter fell 6-1, 6-7 (2), 6-1 to Jason Legall. Arjun Watane was defeated by Joaquin Marquez, 1-6, 6-4, 6-3, in the first round.
All four UCF players won their second round of qualifying on Saturday. Boyd defeated Alex Mascioli, 5-7, 6-2, 6-2. Lovett added a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Brian Berdusco. Paya posted a 6-3, 7-6 (2) win against Santiago Hinojosa. Richmond rounded out the group defeating Mark Oljaca, 6-7 (4), 6-4, 6-0.
The Knights will play in the third round of qualifying on Sunday. Each player needs two more wins to advance to the main draw.
