ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – The indoor season has arrived for the UCF women's track and field team. The Knights are headed to the UAB Blazer Invite to open indoor competition in Birmingham, Ala.

The events begin at 10 a.m. CT/11 a.m. ET inside the Birmingham Crossplex. UCF's first events will be the mile, weight throw and long jump at 11 a.m. CT/noon ET.

The Knights look to carry their momentum over from the 2016 season. UCF finished third in the team standings at the American Athletic Conference indoor championship and earned eight spots on the podium.

The Black and Gold gain more than just a season-opening experience at the Birmingham Crossplex this weekend. UCF is set to return to the venue for the American Athletic Conference Indoor Championship Feb. 24-25.

UCF is one of five Florida schools competing at the all-day event, joining Florida A&M, Florida Atlantic, Florida International and USF. Alabama State, Georgia State, Mississippi State, New Orleans, Samford, Shorter, South Alabama, Southern Mississippi, St. Norbert College and VCU round out the field of competitors.

Six Knights that turned in podium-worthy finishes at last year's outdoor conference championships return in 2017, including redshirt senior Anne-Marie Blaney, who won the 10,000-meter run and earned second team All-America honors at the NCAA Championships. Tayla Greene also returns for her senior season after earning honorable mention All-America status at the 2016 NCAA Championships.
