ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com)—Senior Jalé Hervey was named American Volleyball Coaches Association First-Team All-Region as announced by the AVCA on Tuesday morning.
"What a tremendous honor for a senior who has been our muscle the entire year," said head coach Todd Dagenais. "She worked so hard to become an all-around player and that hard work has yielded her an opportunity to now be an All-American. Her performance against regionally and nationally ranked teams was critical for the success of our program and in those matches. It's a very fitting way to end a very special career."
This is Hervey's second recognition from the AVCA, in 2014 she was placed on the AVCA All-Region Honorable Mention team.
The Huntsville, Ala., native posted incredible numbers this season, tallying a career-high 504 kills this season, hitting at a .265 clip. The outside hitter recorded 333 digs, 44 total blocks (16 solo, 28 assists) and career-high 29 aces. She recorded her 1,000th UCF kill against Central Michigan on Sept. 17.
Against Top-100 opponents, Hervey posted 215 kills and 167 digs. She also made 18 total blocks (five solo, 13 assists), and 16 aces.
Hervey was named to the American Athletic Conference First Team for the third consecutive year, and was named The American Offensive Player of the Week twice this season (Aug. 26 and Nov. 7).
As a first-team honoree, Hervey is now eligible for All-America honors. DeLaina Sarden, Kaye-Alese Green and Kia Bright were named All-America Honorable Mention in 2014.
