ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – With just four regular-season matches remaining, every game is a must win as the Knights look to be included in the American Athletic Conference (AAC) tournament in November.
The Knights are currently tied for fifth but find themselves just below the cut line as Cincinnati and USF each hold a tiebreaker over the Black and Gold. Having already drawn in its match with USF, a win over Cincinnati Thursday would give the Knights an edge if the current standings were to hold up.
In addition to the match against the Bearcats, the Knights have one final match at home against East Carolina Sunday before finishing the regular season on the road at Tulsa and Memphis.
The match with Cincinnati Presented by Napleton Volkswagon, is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday at the UCF Soccer Complex.The first 50 students in attendence will recieve a limited edition Knightro Soccer Bobblehead.
UCF vs. Cincinnati
• The Bearcats took home the American Athletic Conference title last season defeating USF in double overtime.
• UCF is 3-0 all-time at home and 0-2-1 on the road against Cincinnati.
• Both squads share a conference record of 2-1-1 and are currently tied for fifth in the AAC with 7 points each.
• The Bearcats are coming off a 2-0 victory over SMU who was previously tied with UConn atop the AAC.
Gameday Notables
• Senior Forward Carlin Huegli notched the game winner last week against Temple. The header was her second goal of the season and was scored on her first touch of the match.
• Junior Hannah DeBose, sophomore Carrie Lawrence and freshman Zandy Soree lead the Knights in assists with four a piece and each have one goal on the season.
• Soree is one of three freshman who have made significant contributions this season. Defender Julia Ekholm and midfielder Katriina Kuoksa have given the Knights quality minutes as newcomers.
• Sophomore goalkeeper Vera Varis has started and finished all 13 games in net for the Knights. She has logged 1,276 minutes, made 44 saves, posted four shutouts and boasts a goals-against average of 1.55 overall and 1.16 in AAC play.
• Five of the six losses for the Knights came against ranked opponents including (NSCAA as of October 11) #2 South Carolina, #4 Duke, #11 North Carolina, #17 Florida and #21 UConn.
