A new era of UCF men's tennis begins this weekend as Director to Tennis John Roddick leads the Knights in to Athens, Georgia, for the 49th annual Southern Intercollegiate Championships.
"We are excited to get tournament play underway this weekend at the Southern Intercollegiate Championships," said Roddick, who was at the Director of UCF Tennis on May 29. "It will be a great opportunity for our team to see where they are at after the summer. We have put in a lot of work over the last few weeks, and I'm looking forward to seeing this team compete."
Roddick said that 11-of-13 players on the roster will compete at the tournament with transfers Kalman Boyd and Korey Lovett being the only Knights sitting out.
This year's tournament includes student-athletes from the following schools: Arkansas, Armstrong State, Baylor, Belmont, Clemson, East Tennessee State, Eastern Kentucky, Elon, Florida, Gardner-Webb, Georgia, Georgia College, Georgia State, Georgia Tech, Kennesaw State, Kentucky, Lander, Lipscomb, Louisville, Miami, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Charlotte, Old Dominion, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Tennessee Tech, Texas Tech, Vanderbilt and Virginia Tech.
The field will be divided into three singles divisions and two doubles divisions. Play is scheduled to begin Friday at 8 a.m. with Division I and II singles matches at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex. All Division III matches on Friday will be played at the UGA intramural courts.
