THE TOSS

  • Maryland won the toss and deferred; UCF elected to receive; Maryland chose to defend the north end zone.


TEAM NOTES

  • The Knights are now 2-7 all-time in overtime games.
  • UCF's last overtime loss was Dec. 1, 2012, at Tulsa (33-27, OT), which was the 2012 Conference USA Championship Game.
  • UCF ran 91 offensive plays against Maryland, which matches a season-high against South Carolina State (Sept. 3).
  • Saturday night's game was only the second double overtime game in UCF history (Oct. 13, 2012 vs. Southern Miss; W, 38-31, 2OT).
  • For the first time since Sept. 18, 2010, UCF started a true freshman at quarterback in McKenzie Milton.
  • The Knights recorded five sacks in the game, which is the most for UCF since Oct. 10, 2015, vs. UConn.
  • UCF held the Terrapins to only 127 passing yards, which is the fewest since holding SMU to 50 yards on Nov. 22, 2014.


OFFENSIVE NOTES

  • QB McKenzie Milton made his first career start and appearance on Saturday. He is the first true-freshman to start a game at quarterback for UCF since Jeff Godfrey in 2010 (Sept. 18, 2010 at Buffalo).
    • Milton's 260 passing yards are the second most by a UCF quarterback in their first start in the FBS era behind Ryan Schneider, who threw for 365 yards at Eastern Michigan on Sept. 30, 2000.
  • The Hawaii native threw the ball 36 times, which is the second most among first-time starters in UCF history in the FBS era behind Schneider, who threw the ball 38 times.
  • Milton recorded his first career touchdown pass in the first quarter, connecting with Wilson for a four-yard score.
  • The freshman tallied his first career rushing touchdown at the end of the third quarter, recovering his own fumble then scampering in from seven yards out.
  • Milton completed a pass to eight different receivers.
  • WR Tre'Quan Smith recorded his fourth career 100-yard receiving game.
  • Smith's eight receptions are the second most of his career (9, Sept. 3, 2015 vs. FIU).
    • In the first overtime, Smith reeled in a 31-yard touchdown pass from Milton. It was the sixth of his career and second this season.
  • RB Dontravious Wilson caught his first career touchdown pass on a four-yard completion from Milton late in the first quarter.
  • TE Jordan Akins caught a career-long 71-yard pass from Milton near the end of the third quarter.
    • The completion is the longest for UCF since Nov. 14, 2014, when Justin Hollman connected with Josh Reese for a 73-yard touchdown pass against Tulsa at Bright House Networks Stadium.


DEFENSIVE NOTES

  • DE Tony Guerad tallied a career high two sacks in the game with both coming in the first half.
  • LB Demeitre Brim garnered his first career solo sack on Maryland's opening drive.
  • A total of five Knights recorded career-highs in total tackles, including Mark Rucker (11), Errol Clarke (10), Brim (10), Shaquem Griffin (7) and A.J. Wooten (5).


SPECIAL TEAMS NOTES

  • LB Demeitre Brim had his first career rush on a fake punt midway through the first quarter. Brim rumbled for 17 yards on the fake.
  • PK Matthew Wright connected on a 42-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter to even the score at 17-17.
    • Wright went 3-for-3 on extra points, maintaining his career perfection making 24-of-24.
  • P Mac Loudermilk charted his first punt of the season early in the first quarter.
