ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – It was a pretty big day for the Knights on Tuesday with the Black and Gold holding its first scrimmage of preseason camp.
News & Notes
-Tuesday's scrimmage was held inside Bright House Networks Stadium, UCF's first practice in the stadium since the Spring Game.
-The scrimmage opened with an interception by senior cornerback Shaquill Griffin, but the offense came right back with a rushing touchdown by sophomore C.J. Jones (set up by a long strike from junior quarterback Pete DiNovo to junior receiver Jamari Fye) and a 30-yard touchdown pass from senior quarterback Justin Holman to sophomore receiver Tre'Quan Smith.
-Getting into the act through the air, sophomore quarterback Tyler Harris connected on touchdown passes with sophomore wideouts D'erren Wilson and Tristan Reaves. Meanwhile, senior signal caller Nick Patti found sophomore tight end Jordan Akins for six as well. In the ground game, junior rusher Cedric Jordan-Williams and freshmen running backs Jawon Hamilton and Kenneth Williams also found the end zone.
-Several times the Knights' offense started at midfield, and the defense earned multiple stops to force field-goal attempts. Joining Griffin with a pick was senior defensive back Jeremy Boykins.
-UCF also spent a lot of time working on special teams in the morning.
