ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - The No. 72 UCF men's tennis team picked up its first home win of the 2015 season, earning a 5-2 victory over New Mexico State at the UCF Tennis Complex on Friday afternoon.
The Knights came out strong, as senior Francesc Aulina and Reece Acree claimed an 8-1 win at No. 1 doubles. Sophomores Mariano Porter and Jesse Flores gave UCF the doubles point with an 8-3 win on court two. The Knights took a 1-0 lead into singles action.
Aulina kept the match rolling for UCF, earning his second consecutive win at No. 1 singles with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Strahinja Trecakov. Acree pushed the UCF lead to 3-0 with a straight set win over Paul Denele. Wins from Porter and sophomore Chris Barrus on courts four and three, respectively, gave the Knights a 5-0 lead.
New Mexico State tallied two points with wins at the number two and number six position to make it a 5-2 match.
UCF improves to 6-6 on the season. The Knights are back in action at the UCF Tennis Complex on Sunday, hosting Mercer at 12 p.m.
