JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - The No. 67 UCF men's tennis team fell short at the UNF Tennis Complex as No. 69 North Florida ended a four-match UCF winning streak by topping the Knights 4-0 on Friday afternoon.
The Ospreys took a 1-0 lead in the match with doubles wins on courts one and two. Sophomores Jesse Flores and Mariano Porter held a 5-4 lead in No. 3 doubles when UNF earned the point.
Senior Francesc Aulina battled No. 70 Jack Findel-Hawkins at number one singles, but fell short, 6-1, 6-0. Zach Goldberg edged Flores, 6-0, 6-3, at number six singles to extend the UNF lead to 3-0. Norbert Nemcsek clinched the UNF victory with a 6-4, 6-4 win over sophomore Inaki Espindola on court three.
The Knights held leads at number four and number six singles. Sophomore Chris Barrus won his opening set, 6-4, and was leading 5-0 on court four when the match ended. Porter claimed a 6-4 win in the opening set on court six and was up 2-1 when the Ospreys earned the win and ended UCF's four-match win streak.
UCF drops to 5-5 on the season, while UNF improves to 7-2 overall. The Knights return to action tomorrow in a neutral site match against Furman, slated for a 1:00 p.m. start in Jacksonville.
