WEST POINT, N.Y. (UCFKnights.com) - The No. 69 UCF men's tennis team completed an undefeated weekend with a 4-0 win over Buffalo at the Army Kickoff at Lichtenberg Tennis Center on Sunday.
Sophomores Chris Barrus and Inaki Espindola opened the day strong for the Knights, earning a 6-0 win at No. 1 doubles. The Bulls earned the 6-3 win on the number two doubles court. UCF (5-4) claimed the doubles point as sophomores Jesse Flores and Mariano Porter won the tiebreaker at No. 3 doubles, 7-6(5).
Barrus extended the UCF lead to 2-0 with a 6-2, 6-3 straight set win over Sergio Arevalillo at No. 4 singles. Porter's 6-3, 6-4 win over Amar Hromic on court five put the Knights within one singles victory of securing their fourth consecutive win of the spring. Espindola sealed UCF's weekend sweep with a 6-1, 2-6, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles.
When the match ended, the Knights held leads on the final three courts. Senior Francesc Aulina won his opening set at No. 1 singles. Junior Jose Sangroniz claimed his opening set at No. 2 singles and was leading in the second set, while Jesse Flores had battled back to captured the second set and was holding a lead in the third set.
UCF returns to action at North Florida on Feb. 13. The Knights and the Ospreys are slated for a 2:00 p.m. start in Jacksonville.
