WEST POINT, N.Y. (UCFKnights.com) - The No. 69 UCF men's tennis team opened the weekend with a 6-1 win over Boston College at the Army Kickoff in Lichtenberg Tennis Center.
Playing indoors for the first time this spring, the Knights opened the weekend by winning the doubles point. Sophomores Chris Barrus and Inaki Espindola opened the match with a 6-2 victory over Philip Nelson and Matt Wagner at number one doubles. After the Eagles earned the number two win, sophomore Jesse Flores and freshman Tyler Pate clinched the point for UCF with a 7-5 win over Kent Mukai and Alexandre Thirouin.
Flores gave the Knights a 2-0 lead with a straight-set victory at No. 5 singles, which Espindola expanded to a 3-0 lead with a straight-set win in the number three position. Barrus clinched the second straight UCF victory with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 4.
Boston College earned the No. 6 singles win, as Will Turner defeated Acree, but wins at the top from Aulina and junior Jose Sangroniz gave the Knights a 6-1 win at West Point.
With their second consecutive win, the Knights improved to 3-4 this spring. UCF continues Army Kickoff action on Saturday, facing host Army at 9 a.m.
