ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - The UCF men's tennis team got back to its winning ways on Wednesday. The no. 57-ranked Knights swept Bethune-Cookman 7-0 to improve to 11-6 on the season.
UCF got out to a good start, winning the first two doubles matches to secure the first point of the day. Chris Barrus and Inaki Espindola won 8-3 at the number three position before Amar Hromic and Jesse Flores won 8-5 at number one to make it 1-0 in favor of the Knights. Francesc Aulina and Matthew Gladstone were leading 7-3 before their match went unfinished.
Barrus wasted no time adding to UCF's lead with a 6-0, 6-0 win at number three singles. Aulina then won in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2 at number one, before Hromic clinched the match for the Knights by winning 6-4, 6-3 at number two to make it 4-0.
Jose Sangroniz continued the Knights' winning trend on court five. The sophomore won 6-5, 6-2 in his first action of the day. Espindola made it 6-0 UCF with a 6-0, 6-4 win at number four singles.
Flores completed the sweep for the Knights. After winning the first set 7-5 against Bethune's Greg Almeida, Flores dropped set two by a score of 2-6 to send the match into a third set tiebreaker. He won 10-3 to give UCF the 7-0 triumph.
The Knights will return to the court on Friday for their final home match of the season. UCF hosts Troy at 2 p.m. in the final home outing for lone senior Matthew Gladstone.
