MEMPHIS, Tenn. (UCFKnights.com) - The no. 60-ranked UCF men's tennis team opened its final regular season road trip falling at no. 26 Memphis by a score of 7-0 Friday.
The Tigers, who improved to 12-4 on the season and 2-0 in American Athletic Conference action, began by winning the top two doubles matches to earn the first point of the day.
David O'Hare and Joe Salisbury came in ranked eighth in the nation as a double pair, and the duo made quick work of UCF's Amar Hromic and Jesse Flores with an 8-3 victory. Memphis also won at number two doubles to secure the early advantage.
The Knights' freshman pair of Inaki Espindola and Chris Barrus were leading 6-5 at number three doubles before their match went unfinished.
Led by two nationally ranked singles players in Connor Glennon (55) and Salisbury (121), Memphis won all six singles contests to complete the sweep of UCF.
Freshman Reece Acree was the only Knight to win a set on Friday, forcing a third set tie-breaker against O'Hare at the number six singles position. After falling 6-0 in set one, Acree won 6-3 in set two before falling 10-5 in the third set tiebreaker.
UCF dropped to 12-7 on the season with the loss. The Knights will conclude the regular season on Sunday at 11 a.m. when they take on Middle Tennessee in Murfreesboro. Fans can follow the action with Live Results at GoBlueRaiders.com.
