WILMINGTON, N.C. (UCFKnights.com) - The No. 51-ranked UCF men's tennis team picked up its 10th dual victory of the season Thursday afternoon with a neutral site victory. The Knights defeated Binghamton 4-3 as part of Battle at the Beach being hosted by UNC-Wilmington.
UCF took two of the three doubles matches to score the doubles point. And it proved to be a big point, as the singles matches were split 3-3. UCF's No. 3 team of Chris Barrus and Inaki Espindola took an easy 8-0 win, while Binghamton won the No. 1 match. That left Francesc Aulina and Reece Acree to decide the doubles point at No. 2. The Knight duo edged Binghamton's Ismael Dinia/Eliott Hureau by an 8-7 score.
UCF's Francesc Aulina and Chris Barrus were victorious at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, respectively. Those victories put UCF up 3-2, leaving the Knights in need of one more singles victory to take the match. Espindola provided the winning margin, when he topped Dinia 7-6, 6-1 at No. 4 singles.
The Knights will continue play in Wilmington through the weekend.
