ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - One day after a victory that came down to the final match of the day, UCF didn't make it quite so dramatic Sunday. The Knights shut out Winthrop 4-0 at the UCF Tennis Complex.
UCF took two of the three doubles matches to take the doubles point and an early 1-0 lead. In singles action, Chris Barrus, Jesse Flores and Reece Acree were victorious at Nos. 3, 5 and 6, respectively to clinch the victory.
Barrus and Inaki Espindola clinched the doubles point for the second straight match, by a score of 8-6 at No. 3. Amar Hromic and Flores won at No. 1 doubles in a tiebreaker 7-3 after being down an early break in in the first set.
Acree got the Knights on the board at No. 6 singles with a 6-4,6-3 win. Flores won at No. 5 singles 5-7,6-2,6-3 to win the third point for the Knights. Barrus clinched the match for the Knights with a 6-3,7-5 win at No. 3 singles.
The Knights are now 7-1 in dual action this season. UCF will be in action again Thursday afternoon when they host Tulane.
