ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - The UCF men's tennis team picked up a thrilling come-from-behind victory over 55th-ranked Miami Sunday afternoon at the UCF Tennis Complex.
Trailing 3-2, the Knights needed victories from No. 2 singles player Amar Hromic and No. 1 singles player Matthew Gladstone to take the victory. Hromic tied the match at 3-3 when he defeated the Hurricanes' Diego Soto by a tally of 6-4, 5-7, 6-3. That left UCF's Gladstone on the court vs. Gabriel Flores, with the match winner to account for the winning margin.
Gladstone took the first set by a score of 6-4, while Flores stormed back to take the second set 3-6. But it was Gladstone who was able to come through in the final set to lift the Knights to victory.
Miami took two of three doubles matches to take the doubles point and an early 1-0 lead. Francesc Aulina picked up a victory for UCF at No. 3 singles, as did Jesse Flores at No. 6 singles accounting for UCF's other two team points.
The Knights move to 1-0 in dual play this season. UCF will be in action again Jan. 30, facing Florida Gulf Coast in Fort Myers, Fla.
