ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - UCF softball's Mackenzie Audas, Shelby Turnier and Taylor Wagner were honored with Conference USA awards, the league office announced Wednesday.
Audas earned C-USA All-Academic Team recognition for the first time. An early childhood education major, she has posted a 3.83 cumulative GPA while leading the Knights in several pitching categories, including wins and strikeouts. The Plant City native has earned the C-USA Commissioner's Academic Medal and been named to the Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll each of her first two seasons.
Her selection marks the 10th time a Knight has been named to softball all-academic team since UCF began playing in C-USA in 2006.
Turnier and Wagner each earned a spot on the C-USA All-Freshman team. Turnier led all conference freshmen in virtually every major pitching category including wins (14), ERA (2.33), batting average against (.226) and strikeouts (105). The Plant City native made 22 starts and eight relief appearances as the Knights No. 2 starter.Wagner led the Knights with a .308 batting average and .407 on-base percentage. The Lakeland native appeared in 48 of 53 games this season with 15 starts in the outfield and as the designated player.
Since 2006, 19 Knights have been named to All-C-USA Teams and 12 have been named to the league's all-freshman team.
The C-USA Softball Championship begins Thursday, May 9, at the Collins Family Softball Complex on the campus of the University of Tulsa. UCF (6) faces host Tulsa (3) on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. in the first round.
