ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF women's soccer team rolled to a 5-0 victory over Rollins on Feb. 18 on Alumni Weekend.
Roughly 48 hours after returning to the United States after her terrific game for Portugal in qualifying play for the UEFA Women's EURO 2013, redshirt junior Andrea Rodrigues wasted no time in helping put UCF on the board.
Junior Nicolette Radovcic served a cross to an awaiting Rodrigues, who netted the game-winner in the first half.
Madison Barney helped start UCF's scoring frenzy in the first five minutes of the second half when she drew a foul in the box to warrant a penalty kick. Jennifer Martin stepped up and put the ball past the goalkeeper.
Barney assisted the third goal of the game when Rollins' goalkeeper barely deflected her shot, but Radovcic was there to rebound and put it away.
UCF struck again when redshirt freshman Emily Grider slipped a ball to junior Tishia Jewell for a 4-0 Knights edge.
Redshirt sophomore Marleigh Howard capped the game for UCF with a late goal for a 5-0 win. Lianne Maldonado and Connie Organ split the game in goal to account for the Knights' second-straight shutout of the spring season.
The weekend also pitted UCF's alumni against the current Knights in a game prior to UCF's win. Following the match, the team served up a Bubbalou's barbeque for the alumni and the Knights enjoyed a team dinner on Saturday night to bring a happy end to the festivities.
"It is always an exciting day when our alumni come into town," assistant coach Donna Fishter said. "We had several here from the late 80's when UCF went to the Final Four. It is always funny to see these awesome athletes from back in the day - and today they are asking for a water break. Age might be catching up on them, but down deep our alumni bleed the Black and Gold."
UCF will play Florida at 2:15 and USF at 3:30 in Tampa on Feb. 25.
