ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - After leading the UCF women's soccer team past FIU Friday in the first round of the NCAA Championship, junior Tishia Jewell has been named the Bright House Student-Athlete of the Week.
Jewell put the Knights ahead 14 minutes into the game when she took a pass from senior Aline Reis (Campinas, Brazil), sprinted past a couple FIU defenders and fired a rocket past goalie Kaitlyn Savage.
The forward from Satellite Beach, Fla., helped put the game out of reach by assisting Emily Grider (Fort Worth, Texas) in the 76th minute to make it 2-0.
The 2010 Conference USA Offensive Player of the Year was aggressive all night recording nine shots on goal alone to FIU's eight.
The No. 23 Knights will now travel to Gainesville to face Florida in the second round of the NCAA Championship. The match is set for 7 p.m. Friday at Pressley Stadium.
