ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The No. 15 UCF women's soccer team pushed its unbeaten streak to six matches Sunday as the Knights' contest against Florida Gulf Coast at the UCF Soccer Complex finished in a scoreless draw. The Knights (5-1-2) have not suffered a defeat since Aug. 21.
UCF recorded a 15-5 shot advantage Sunday. Florida Gulf Coast moved to 5-3-1 with the tie.
The Knights had several scoring opportunities late in the contest. Junior Tishia Jewell (Satellite Beach, Fla.) had an apparent goal at the 71:28 mark when she blasted a shot from the left side of the box past Florida Gulf Coast goalkeeper Stephanie Powers, but offsides was called. Nine minutes later, junior Nicolette Radovcic (Rockaway, N.J.) was in the box heading toward the goal when she collided with an Eagle defender. No penalty was called on the play.
The pair connected three minutes into the second overtime period when Jewell found Radovcic near the goal, but her header was wide.
"We are frustrated with the result," UCF head coach Amanda Cromwell said. "We took 15 shots. Usually that is good enough for at least one goal. We thought we should have scored at least one goal. The defense played well. We limited both teams this weekend to just a few shots. In the attacking third, we just need to be sharper."
The contest, which was played under cloudy conditions, closed out a two-match homestand for the Knights. UCF defeated Jacksonville, 2-1, Friday.
Florida Gulf Coast was playing for the first time in a week.
UCF senior Aline Reis (Campinas, Brazil) registered two saves. Powers totaled six saves for the Eagles. Reis, senior Stacie Hubbard (Jacksonville, Fla.) and sophomore Marissa Diggs (Rowlett, Texas) logged all 110 minutes for the Knights.
The Knights will return to action Friday when they open Conference USA play at SMU. The squad's next home match is set for Sept. 30 against UTEP.
