ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFathletics.com) - The UCF men's soccer team closed out its preseason with a 1-1 tie against Saint Leo Saturday night at the UCF Soccer Stadium. Senior Cameron Cooksey (Marietta, Ga.) netted the team's lone goal in the 36th minute.

"There were some good things and bad things tonight, but the beauty of the exhibition season is that we continue to work on things and get better heading towards the season," head coach Bryan Cunningham said. "We're really looking forward to the regular season and starting off on a good note Friday at Jacksonville."

Cooksey scored UCF's tally off a corner kick that he redirected into the right side of the net past the St. Leo goalkeeper to put the Knights up 1-0. Freshman Matthew Gaskins (St. Petersburg, Fla.) collected the assist after taking the corner kick.

The Lions tied the score, 1-1, on a goal by Edgar Herrera with Bruno Da DSilva collecting an assist.

Junior goalkeeper Shawn Doyle (Ft. Myers, Fla.) made his first appearance of the preseason, playing all 90 minutes for the Knights.

UCF outshot the St. Leo, 13-9, and held a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks.

The Knights return to action Aug. 26 at 7 p.m. at Jacksonville to open their regular season play.
