ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The summer wood-bat season has come to a close for the Knights, and UCF's 19 student-athletes experienced a lot of memorable moments in 2010. One of the biggest highlights came from senior first baseman Jonathan Griffin, who took over the Valley League by winning the annual home run derby and being named to the All-Valley League First Team.

Griffin hit seven homers in the first round of the Valley's derby, then hit three in the second before claiming the crown with a pair of dingers in the championship round. Later in the Valley League All-Star Game, Griffin drew three walks at the dish.

Meanwhile, left-handed pitcher Johnny Sedlock joined Griffin with the Luray Wranglers as they captured the Valley League championship this summer. Griffin's homer in game one of the best-of-three finals with Front Royal put the Wranglers in the lead, and Sedlock tossed a scoreless inning in relief to help grab the 7-3 win.

In 51 games for the Wranglers, Griffin smashed 13 homers, drove in 44 and scored 31 runs while batting .333. Sedlock was just as impressive, posting a 2.78 ERA in 32.1 innings, walking only five and striking out 41.

Over in the Cape Cod League, sophomore center fielder Ronnie Richardson was selected as an all-star for the Harwich Mariners, and junior catcher Beau Taylor helped the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox reach the finals of the Cape Cod League playoffs.

And in the Florida Collegiate Summer League, junior outfielder Alex Friedrich led the entire league with 29 RBI and guided the Winter Park Diamond Dawgs to the FCSL title.
