ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - UCF director of athletics Keith Tribble announced on Monday that baseball head coach Terry Rooney has agreed to a contract extension that will keep him at the helm of the Knights through the 2014 season.
"I am very pleased with the progress of our baseball program under coach Rooney," Tribble said. "We've continually improved during his first two seasons at UCF, both academically and athletically. With his exceptional recruiting, we've established ourselves as a program that can now compete for our conference championship in upcoming seasons."
"I am extremely pleased with the direction of our program and the strides we have made the last two years," Rooney said. "With the upcoming stadium enhancements and further upgrades, the future of UCF baseball is bright and I look forward to continuing on as the head coach."
This past season, backed by a strong group of returning players and the fourth-ranked recruiting class in the country, the Knights finished 33-22 overall and 10-14 in Conference USA play. The 33 total victories were the most for the program since joining the league before the 2006 campaign, and the 10 conference wins were also a program high.
Several of Rooney's Knights received individual honors at the conclusion of the season, most notably seniors Chris Duffy and Shane Brown, who both garnered multiple All-America awards. Duffy was also named a finalist for the prestigious Golden Spikes national player of the year award. Several members of Rooney's freshman class were recognized, with Ryan Breen, Joe Rogers and Chris Taladay, who was the C-USA Freshman of the Year, garnering Freshman All-America honors.
