BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (UCFAthletics.com) - Despite nine saves by freshman Shawn Doyle (Fort Myers, Fla.), UCF (6-5-2, 2-3-0 C-USA) fell 2-0 Saturday night at #25 UAB (10-3-1, 4-1-1 C-USA) in Conference USA men's soccer action. The loss to the Blazers snapped a three-game winning streak for the Knights.
UAB was able to take the lead and score the eventual game-winner in the 23rd minute when Michal Mravec scored on a rebound after Doyle saved a shot from Anthony King.
Junior Camilo Rendon (Miami, Fla.) had two opportunities to tie the score in the five minutes that followed, but UAB keeper Carl Woszcznski made saves on both of Rendon's strikes. The two shots were the Knights only two of the first half.
After nearly 30 minutes of scoreless second-half action, the Blazers were able to get an insurance goal in the net in the 73rd minute off a corner kick. Bart Markel sent the kick into the box, and Jonah Stewart was there to head it past Doyle.
Yaron Bacher (Atlanta, Ga.) had three shots in the second half in trying to get UCF on the scoreboard, but was unable to get one across and saw his point-scoring streak end at four games.
