Oct. 23, 2009

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Riding a three-game winning streak as the season hits its homestretch, the UCF men's soccer team will continue play Saturday evening at UAB. The Knights enter the game at 6-4-2 overall and 2-2-0 in Conference USA play while the Blazers, receiving votes in the national top-25 poll, are currently 9-3-1 and 3-1-1 in league action.

In its last outing, UCF defeated Marshall, previously unbeaten in conference play, 1-0 behind a 58th minute goal from junior Yaron Bacher (Atlanta, Ga.). Freshman keeper Shawn Doyle (Fort Myers, Fla.) stopped five shots in the game for his first C-USA shutout.

The Knights continue to be led offensively by freshman Nicholas Robson (Auckland, New Zealand), who has tallied a team-high four goals and five assists. Bacher has a point in each of the Knights' four C-USA contests, including the game-winner in both of the team's wins.

Forwards Babayele Sodade and Kofi Gyawu each have six goals on the season to lead the Blazers, who have a 7-1-1 record in their previous nine games. Goalkeeper Carl Woszczynski, a two-time C-USA defensive player of the week, has a goals against average of 0.98.

With only four C-USA games remaining, the contest is important in the race for towards the C-USA Tournament. Only the league's top-four teams earn spots in the tournament, with the Knights currently in sixth place but only one point out of the top four.
