Reis Snags Fourth C-USA Women's Soccer Weekly Award of 2008

Nov. 3, 2008

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - She might have only played one match last week, but UCF women's soccer freshman goalkeeper Aline Reis (Campinas, Brazil) had a stellar performance en route to earning Conference USA's Defensive Player of the Week award, the league office announced Monday. It was Reis' fourth-weekly honor of the season and her second in as many weeks.

The No. 22-ranked Knights (12-4-3, 7-2-2) have now claimed six accolades from C-USA this year, including offensive awards by junior Yvonne George and senior Hanna Wilde in September.

Taking on Southern Miss in Hattiesburg Oct. 31 in the regular-season finale, Reis took over for junior Lynzee Lee in the 35th minute due to an injury. With the score knotted at 1-1, Reis made four important saves in 46:15 of work to help set up the UCF offense, which went on to score three times in the second half for a 4-1 victory.

Reis moved to 11-4-3 in her first season at the Division I level, and has six shutouts in 17 starts. Meanwhile, she holds a 1.20 goals-against average and a .796 save percentage. Reis' 86 saves are tied for eighth on UCF's single-season chart. The Brazil native previously won C-USA's weekly honor Sept. 8, Sept. 15 and Oct. 27.

UCF will have a short week to prepare for the upcoming C-USA Championship. The Black and Gold serve as the No. 3 seed and take on host and No. 6 seed Rice Wednesday at 9 p.m. ET in the first round.
