ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - By shutting out SMU and Tulsa in Conference USA action last weekend, UCF women's soccer freshman goalkeeper Aline Reis (Campinas, Brazil) was named the C-USA Defensive Player of the Week on Monday. It was Reis' third defensive weekly honor of the season.
Reis' efforts enabled the Knights to remain in contention for the C-USA regular-season title as well as a potential berth in the NCAA Tournament for the second-straight season. UCF currently stands at 11-4-3 on the year with a 6-2-2 mark in league play.
Last week opened up with Senior Night against SMU Oct. 24, and the first-year starter helped four seniors go out with style in a 1-0 win over the Mustangs. Reis amassed nine saves, including six in the opening half, for the shutout. Two days later at Tulsa, she collected four more saves in a 3-0 blanking of the Golden Hurricane.
Reis now has six shutouts to rank tied for second in C-USA, and her 82 saves moved her into third on the league chart. With 82 stops, she is also tied for ninth on UCF's single-season list.
The award was UCF's fifth as a team, as junior Yvonne George (Winter Springs, Fla.) and senior Hanna Wilde (Westlake, Ohio) claimed C-USA Offensive Player of the Week accolades earlier in 2008.
The Knights wrap up the regular season on the road on Friday when they travel to Southern Miss for a 4 p.m. ET match-up.
