ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF softball team kicked-off its fall schedule this weekend with the UCF Fall Tournament, posting a 3-0-1 record on the weekend at the UCF Softball Complex.
The Knights opened the event with a 2-0 win over Brevard Community College Saturday, before downing Indian River Community College, 7-1, later in the day. On Sunday, the Black and Gold began the day with a 3-3 tie versus Seminole Community College and closed their portion of the schedule with an 11-1 victory over Miami-Dade Community College.
In the opening game against Brevard, sophomore Abby McClain (Waterloo, Iowa) led the Knights at the plate with a 2-for-3 performance, while junior Morgan Bullard (Columbia, S.C.) went 1-for-1 with the game-winning RBI, a walk and a stolen base.
UCF scored both of its runs in the same inning against Brevard, with senior Lexi Gresham (Fresno, Calif.) reaching base on a passed ball to lead off the frame. Freshman Olivia Alvarez (Miami, Fla.) advanced Gresham to second base with a single, before Bullard knocked her in with a base hit. An RBI by Tiffany Lane (Moreno Valley, Calif.) brought Alvarez around to score on the next play and gave the Black and Gold the 2-0 advantage.
Freshmen Natalie Land (Mayo, Fla.) and Alvarez paced UCF's offense in the win over Indian River, with Land going 2-for-3 with a RBI, while Alvarez also put together a 2-for-3 outing at the plate. Four additional Knights posted an RBI in the contest, with senior Breanne Javier (Castaic, Calif.) and junior Ashleigh Cole (Pace, Fla.) both posting a double and a RBI.
Lane went had a hit, a RBI, a walk and scored a run in UCF's first game Sunday against Seminole, while Land and Javier both posted a hit and a RBI in the tie.
Seven different Knights posted at least one hit in their drubbing of Miami-Dade later in the day, with Alvarez, Gresham and Land posting two hits apiece. Junior Hillary Barrow (Miami, Fla.) was 1-for-3 at the plate with two RBI and a walk, while Vanessa Perez (San Diego, Calif.), Diana Rojas (Miami, Fla.) and Magon Paul (Virginia Beach, Va.) each added a hit.
The Knights are scheduled to host Seminole Community College in a doubleheader Friday night at the UCF Softball Complex. The pair of contests are set to get underway at 5 p.m.
