UCF Women's Golf Team Ties For 10th At LSU/Cleveland Golf Classic

Baton Rouge, La. (www.ucfathletics.com) - The UCF women's golf team concluded play at the LSU/Cleveland Golf Classic in a tie 10th place on Sunday as the three-day event came to a close on the University Golf Club. The Knights were led by junior Stephanie Connelly for the third-straight day as she finished fourth overall with a three-round total of 216 (E).

For Connelly, the 54-hole score was the lowest of her career as she carded a 73 (+1) in her final 18 holes of the tournament. She led the Knights with 14 birdies in the tournament as UCF posted a three-round total of 914 (+50) to finish in a tie for 10th with 29th-ranked South Carolina.

Freshman Jessy Tang (Miami, Fla.) had her best round of the three-day event, posting a 76 (+4) in final round action. Junior May Tomimbang (Kissimmee, Fla.) was second among the Knights in the overall standings, tying for 26th after a final round 77 (+5) gave her a three-round total of 227 (+11).

36th-ranked Florida State surprised a trio of top 25 teams in 17-team field as the Seminoles defeated host LSU by six strokes. The Fighting Tigers posted their best round of the tournament at 290 (+2), but could catch Florida State who held on for the wire-to-wire victory.

Florida State's Caroline Westrup won medalist honors after firing a 67 (-5) in her final round. That was the lowest single round of the tournament as Westrup (208, -8) finished four strokes ahead of North Carolina State's Lauren Doughtie (212, -4). LSU's Rebecca Kuhn finished third, one shot ahead of Connelly at 215 (-1).

10th-ranked Wake Forest took third (894, +30) as they were followed by North Carolina State in fourth (896, +32) and 14th-ranked Alabama in fifth (897, +33).

Sophomores Leigh Crosby (Athens, Ga.) and Victoria Tomko (Lontzen, Belgium) both carded an 82 (+10) in the final round. The Knights will return to action at the Liz Murphy Intercollegiate where they will face many of the same teams in Athens, Ga., on March 21-23.

That will be the final tune-up for the team prior to the Conference USA Championship, which is slated for April 14-16 in El Paso, Texas.
