Baton Rouge, La. (www.ucfathletics.com) - Junior Stephanie Connelly (Pasadena, Md.) posted the lowest round of her UCF career during round two of the LSU/Cleveland Golf Classic on Saturday to stand in third place after 36 holes of the event. Connelly's two-round total is 143 (-1), just two strokes off the lead shared by NC State's Lauren Doughtie and Florida State's Caroline Westrup.
Connelly had five birdies en route to posting a 70 (-2), which is also the lowest competitive round by a UCF golfer this season. For the tournament, the Ohio State transfer has made 10 birdies. The UCF women's golf team stands in ninth place overall with a two-day total of 606 (+30).
Westrup fired a 68 (-4) to extend the Seminoles' lead in the team standings to 12 strokes over Alabama, who moved up from a tie for fifth into second alone following. Host LSU and 10th-ranked Wake Forest are tied for third at 600 (+24). Places two through nine in the team standings are only separated by seven strokes entering the final round.
UCF junior May Tomimbang (Kissimmee, Fla.) stands in a tie for 17th after posting a 77 (+5) in her second round. Sophomore Leigh Crosby shaved two strokes off her first round score to register a 76 (+4) on Saturday. Crosby got off to fast start with birdies on two her first three holes.
Sophomore Victoria Tomko (Lontzen, Belgium) was second on the team during round two with four birdies, while freshman Jessy Tang (Miami, Fla.) had her 81 (+9) count towards the team score for the second straight day.
