UCF Fastbreak - Jan. 31

Jan. 31, 2008

ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - On Saturday when UCF hosts Houston for a Conference USA contest at the new UCF Arena, head coach Kirk Speraw and the Knights' coaching staff will not be wearing the finest in designer footwear. As part of the National Association of Basketball Coaches efforts to raise awareness about cancer, the coaches will be wearing sneakers with their usual game attire.

Starting Friday and concluding Sunday, coaches across the country will be wearing casual foot attire to show their support in the fight against cancer.

In past years, Speraw and his staff have donned sneakers as part of the NABC's Coaches vs. Cancer program. This year's effort is being called "Suits and Sneakers."

"The NABC does a great job of helping raise awareness about the fight against cancer," said Speraw. "As coaches, we try to participate in events like this to help get the word out about research and cancer prevention. Hopefully, people in the stands on Saturday will leave the arena with a little more awareness."

Tip-off for the game against the Cougars is set for 7 p.m., and will follow a UCF women's contest that is slated to begin at 5 p.m.
