- Served as men’s basketball head coach from 1993-2010
- Led UCF to its first NCAA Tournament appearance in his first season in 1994 after a 21-9 finish and an Atlantic Sun Tournament championship, and four NCAA Tournament appearance overall (1994, 1996, 2004 and 2005)
- Captured four Atlantic Sun Tournament championships (1994, 1996, 2004, 2005) and a regular season championship in 2005
- Led the Knights to a 25-6 record during the 2003-04 season and an NCAA Tournament appearance
- Named Conference USA Coach of the Year in 2007 after guiding the Knights to 22 victories and a second-place league finish
- Coached a total of 18 all-conference selections in his 17 years as head coach, including 54 academic all-conference honorees
- Coached a total of 43 years as an assistant coach at Iowa (1979-80, 2010-22), Denver (1980-1982), Florida Southern (1982-87), Florida (1990-93) and head coach at Pensacola Junior College (1987-90) and UCF
- Native of Sioux City, Iowa
- Was a two-time letterman (1978-79) at Iowa under Hall of Fame head coach Lute Olson
