UCF Women's Golf Moves Up To Sixth At UA-Ann Rhoads Intercollegiate

Oct. 27, 2007

Tuscaloosa, Ala. (www.ucfathletics.com) - The UCF women's golf team improved three strokes on their team score and moved up a spot in the team standings following round two play of the UA-Ann Rhoads Intercollegiate on Saturday at the NorthRiver Golf Club. Freshman Jessy Tang led the Knights with a 73 (+2) in her second round and sits in a tie for third with a two-round total of 145 (+3), just one stroke behind leaders Stacy Lewis of Arkansas and Stefanie Kenoyer of Furman (144, +2).

UCF moved up to sixth place following a second-round total of 300, giving them a total score of 603 (+35). Tang was one of a few golfers in the 18-team field to hover around even-par as no golfers broke par in the second round during windy conditions in Alabama.

"I think overall, everyone played well today," head coach Emilee Klein said. "We had a solid day on a very difficult golf course. We are keeping pace with some of the top teams in the country and the girls' hard work is beginning to pay off, which is good to see."

Arkansas held on to its team lead equaling the Knights with a second-round 300. The Razorbacks (595, +27) hold a one-shot lead on Louisville (596, +28) as the top four teams all remained in their same positions. Notre Dame (597, +29) is third and Furman is in fourth (600, +32).

The Knights are two strokes behind Auburn (601, +33), who rounds out the top five. Sophomores Leigh Crosby (Athens, Ga./Oconee) and Victoria Tomko (Lontzen, Belgium/Bradenton Academy) fired identical scores of the second straight day as each player posted a 74 (+3). The scores were six-shot improvements from their opening-round scores of 80.

Junior May Tomimbang is tied for 16th in the individual standings following a second-round score of 79 (+8). Tomimbang shot even par in Friday's opening round to give her a two-day total of 150 (+8).

The Knights close out tournament play on Sunday with the third round of the three-day event. Full tournament results are available at www.golfstat.com.
