Orlando, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - Junior May Tomimbang (Kissimmee, Fla./Gateway) carded a career-low 71 (E) on Friday to lead the UCF women's golf team in round one action at the UA-Ann Rhoads Intercollegiate. Tomimbang is tied for fourth overall and the Knights sit in seventh place following the opening 18 holes of the North River Golf Club.
Tomimbang opened her round on the par 71, 5,963-yard layout with birdies on three of her first four holes. She went on to make four birdes and post the second even-par round of her UCF career. Freshman Jessy Tang (Miami, Fla./Olympia) was only stroke behind Tomimbang, posting a score of 73 (+1). Tang is in a group of eight players tied for fifth, four shots behind leader Stacy Lewis of Arkansas (68, -3).
"May and Jessy played awesome today," head coach Emilee Klein said. "The weather here is pretty bad and the rain really lengthened the course, but if those two continue to play well and we can get a couple more good scores then we are going to be right in this thing."
Sophomores Victoria Tomko (Lontzen, Belgium/Bradenton Academy) and Leigh Crosby (Athens, Ga./Oconee) each shot respective scores of 80 (+9) to count towards the Knights' team score of 303 (+19). The Knights trail leader Arkansas (295, +11) by just eight strokes in the 18-team field.
The sixth-ranked Razorbacks hold a slim two-shot lead on Louisville after the Cardinals tallied a team score of 297 (+13). Notre Dame is three behind the leaders following a 298 (+14).
The Knights return to the course on Saturday for round two of the intercollegiate event in Tuscaloosa. Full tournament results are available at www.golfstat.com.
