UCF Fastbreak - Oct. 14

Oct. 14, 2007

ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - Senior guard Mike O'Donnell (Largo, Fla./Largo) will serve as UCF's captain this season. Head coach Kirk Speraw allowed his players to select the squad's captain this year and the Knights tabbed O'Donnell last week.

Last season, O'Donnell shared the captain duties with Josh Peppers. O'Donnell is one of six seniors on the Knights this year.

"That (serving as the captain) is a big responsibility," said O'Donnell. "Josh was very vocal last year and I have learned from him. I am trying to provide some constructive criticism for my teammates."

In 2006-07, O'Donnell started all 31 games and averaged 10.3 points. He shot 43 percent from 3-point range, which ranked second in Conference USA. O'Donnell paced the Knights with 116 assists.

In two campaigns with the Knights, he has not missed a start (60 games). He arrived in Orlando prior to the 2004-05 season after spending his freshman year at NC State. Despite playing just two seasons with the Knights, he is among UCF's all-time leaders in 3-pointers with 116.
