TULSA, Okla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - Sophomore Yvonne George scored in her fifth-straight match and senior Jennifer Manis recorded her third-consecutive shutout as the UCF women's soccer team blanked Tulsa, 4-0, Friday in Oklahoma. Four different Knights connected on the goals to help the Black and Gold improve to 8-2-2 on the year and 3-0-0 in Conference USA.
The victory was UCF's fourth-straight, while it moved to 4-0-2 in its last six outings. Tulsa (2-10-1, 0-3-0) put eight of its 10 shots on net, but Manis turned aside all of them. The Knights' goalkeeper has not given up a goal in the last 315:20 dating back to a 3-2 win over Loyola (Md.) Sept. 28.
For the match, UCF outshot the Golden Hurricane 18-10. Junior Hanna Wilde led the way with four shots, and George finished with three, as both registered a goal and an assist in the triumph.
UCF wasted little time in jumping out to a 1-0 lead, lighting up the scoreboard just two minutes into the game. Wilde picked up her fourth goal of the year by driving a shot into the left part of the net that goalkeeper Kendall Harclerode had some trouble defending. The reigning C-USA Offensive Player of the Week got into the action as well when George tallied her sixth goal of 2007 in the 21st minute, giving the Knights a 2-0 cushion. Sophomore Nikki Moore was credited with the assist on George's insurance goal.
The second half saw more of the Knights' scoring attack. Sophomore Courtney Whidden maintained her team lead in the goals department by converting on a corner kick in the 69th minute for her eighth of the season. Junior Jessica Jackson picked up her first collegiate point by earning the assist on the play. UCF's scoring came to a close in the 80th minute on freshman Kacie Horner's first goal as a Knight. Horner cranked a 20-yard shot off the left post after receiving possession from Wilde and junior Danielle Dos Santos.
The Knights look to make in five in a row when they complete their weekend trip at SMU Sunday at 2 p.m. ET. The match will be televised by CSTV and aired Tuesday at 8 p.m.
