Orlando, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - The UCF women's golf team shot its second consecutive 309 (+21) and moved into third place following round two of the Ryder/Florida Women's Collegiate Golf Championship. The Knights have three golfers in the top 10 despite tougher conditions Saturday at Don Shula's Golf Club and Resort in Miami Lakes, Fla.
Sophomore Stephanie Connelly (Pasadena, Md.) had the top round for the Knights and second best in the field on Saturday as she fired a 74 (+8). Connelly is tied with teammate Sara Hurwitch (Potomac Falls, Va./Dominion) in eighth place. The freshman posted a 77 (+5) in her secound round and the duo has a two-day total of 153 (+9).
Freshman Victoria Tomko (Lontzen, Belgium/Bradenton Academy) is the top Knight on the individual scoreboard, standing in a tie for sixth after round two. Tomko registered a 77 (+5) to go with her first-round score of 75 (152, +8).
UCF trails tournament leader Florida Southern (611, +35) by seven strokes entering final round action. USF (612, +36) is in second among the 12-team field of Sunshine State participants.
Freshman Leigh Crosby (Athens, Ga./Oconee) scored an 81 (+9) for the second straight day and is tied for 36th. Sophomore Mayule Tomimbang (Kissimmee, Fla./Gateway) posted an 84 (+12) and is in 40th place.
