ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - A record breaking performance by senior LaToya Green (Miramar, Fla./McArthur HS) highlighted the list of impressive performances as the Golden Knight women's track and field team opened its outdoor season at the UCF Invitational on Saturday.

Despite the unseasonably cold and rainy weather, the Golden Knights collected top finishes in eight of the 18 events. Green ran the 100-meter dash in 11.94 seconds, besting the previous school record set by Erica Garcia in 2002 by one hundredth of a second. The effort placed her fourth.

Freshman Stephanie Knapp (Englewood, Fla./Lemon Bay HS) recorded a personal best of 57.51 to take top honors in the 400m, while junior Elizabeth Miller (Orlando, Fla./Timber Creek HS) ran a 7:24.26 in the 2,000m steeplechase, an effort that ranks second all-time at UCF. As first time steeplechasers, junior Allison Palmer (Oviedo HS) and freshman Erica Weitz (Morganville, N.J./Marlboro HS) took second and fourth, respectively.

In the 1500m, sophomore Kelly McNeill (Coral Springs, Fla./Taravella HS) crossed the finish line first with a personal best time of 4:54.21 and junior Kristen Zieminski (Sarasota, Fla./Riverview HS) was second at 5:01.68.

The Golden Knights performed well in the throws, sweeping the discus. Junior Virginia Traynor (Miami, Fla./Westminster Christian HS) grabbed first in the shot put at 43-4.25, took second in the discus with a personal best of 135-4.25 and claimed third in the hammer at 135-2.50. Meanwhile, freshman LaKendra Thames (Winter Garden, Fla./West Orange HS) was first in the discus with a toss of 137-11.50 and fourth in the hammer throw at 135-5.50. Her classmate Jessica Francis (Orlando, Fla./Boone HS) was third in the discus with a mark of 130-0.75.
