Orlando, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - The UCF women's golf team returns to action this weekend at the 35th Annual Liz Murphey Invitational in Athens, Ga., where the Golden Knights will be a part of a talent-rich field that features 13 of the Top 30 programs in the country. The three-day, 54-hole event will be played Friday-Sunday on the University of Georgia Golf Course.
The Knights will feature a five player line-up of senior Kristy McLaughlin (Wasaga Beach, Ontario, Canada/Collingwood Collegiate Institute), sophomore Stephanie Connelly (Pasadena, Md./The Pendleton School) and a trio of freshmen. That threesome includes Leigh Crosby (Athens, Ga./Oconee), who returns to play in her home town, Sara Hurwitch (Potomac Falls, Va./Dominion) and Victoria Tomko (Lontzen, Belgium/Bradenton Academy).
The host Bulldogs are the top-ranked team in the field as they enter their home event at No. 3 in the latest Golfweek rankings. Other top-30 teams in the 18-team field include No. 4 Auburn, No. 11 Florida, No. 15 Purdue, No. 16 Wake Forest, No. 19 Virginia, No. 22 Michigan State, No. 23 Florida State, No. 25 LSU, No. 26 Arkansas, No. 27 Kent State, No. 29 Alabama and No. 30 South Carolina.
Florida State's Caroline Westrup, the defending medalist from last year's Liz Murphey, is the highest-ranked individual at No. 2 in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index.
