ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - Junior guard Chip Cartwright (Houston, Texas/Wheatley HS) led a trio of UCF players in double figures with 12 points as the Golden Knights picked up an 81-46 victory over Bethune-Cookman on Tuesday evening at the UCF Arena.
UCF (3-0) started the game on an 8-0 run and extended that lead to 15-3 at the 15:42 mark after making six-consecutive shots from the field. The Golden Knights would never trail in the contest and led by as many as 22 points in the first half. The Wildcats fell to 1-1 with the loss.
Ten of the 12 Golden Knights who saw action scored in the game. No UCF played logged more than 26 minutes on the floor.
"It was a ballgame where we were able to play a lot of people," said UCF head coach Kirk Speraw. "They deserved it (playing time). They have been practicing hard. I thought a lot of people gave a decent effort during the game.
Sophomore guard Jermaine Taylor (Tavares, Fla./Tavares HS) came off the UCF bench to reach double figures for the third-straight game. Taylor and senior forward Josh Peppers (Memphis, Tenn./Whitehaven HS) each finished with 11 points.
Peppers scored 10 of his points in the first half as the Golden Knights built a 41-22 advantage at the break. UCF converted 13 BCC turnovers into 22 points in the opening 20 minutes and assisted on 11 of its 14 first-half field goals.
The hosts dominated inside, scoring 40 points in the paint and holding a 43-30 advantage on the glass. UCF shot 49.1 percent overall for the game.
Jimmy Hudson led BCC with 14 points. John Anderson and Aaron Nelson each fouled out for the Wildcats, who committed 21 turnovers and shot just 30 percent from the field.
