UCF Trio Receives C-USA Accolades

ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - The No. 6 seeded UCF men's soccer team takes on host and No. 3 seed Tulsa in the Conference USA Championship on Wednesday, Nov. 1 at 9 p.m. ET. The Golden Knights enter the tournament on a three-match winning streak and will be playing their fourth game in eight days.

The Golden Knights are making their first appearance in the C-USA Men's Soccer Championship as they narrowly missed qualifying last season. Prior to joining Conference USA, UCF earned three consecutive Atlantic Sun Tournament Championships from 2002 through 2004.

Wednesday marks the third time in program history that the Golden Knights have met the Golden Hurricane. TU owns a 2-0-0 advantage in the series, including a 2-1 win in Tulsa, Okla. this fall. Senior Matt Thomas and junior Eric Burkholder scored goals for Tulsa with a tally by UCF sophomore Ryan Roushandel sandwiched between them.

Although sophomore Zak Boggs (Vienna, W.Va./The Pendleton School) remains atop the Golden Knights' stat sheet with five goals and an assist for 11 points, the last two matches prior to the C-USA Championship saw all five of the Golden Knights' goals scored by players coming off the bench. In the 1-0 win over Stetson on Oct 28, freshman Phillippe Aubry, who had previously seen limited action in four matches, recorded his first collegiate goal in the 40th minute.

Meanwhile, against Marshall on Oct. 30, sophomore Jake Howard opened up the scoring in the 46th minute followed by goals from sophomore Chris Andaur, freshman Andy Masteller and senior Mark Wong, all of whom came off the bench.

With a victory, the Golden Knights move to the semi-finals, where they take on the winner of the Memphis/Kentucky match on Friday, Nov. 3 at 8:30 p.m.
