Women's Golf Travels to Auburn for its Last Fall Event of the Season

Oct. 26, 2006

Orlando, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - For the UCF women's golf team, the fall schedule has been very eventful. The Golden Knights have consistently used three solid freshmen in their lineup and opened the season by hosting the NCAA Fall Preview. They conclude the fall this weekend with yet another tough test when they travel to Alabama for the Auburn Derby Friday-Sunday.

UCF is no stranger to the event as it competed in the first seven installments beginning in 1994. But this year marks the first time since 2000 that it will be in the field. The Golden Knights have placed third twice (1994, 2000) and walked away with the first ever individual title thanks to Kristen Putman winning in a playoff in 1994.

This year's field will include Alabama, Auburn, Baylor, Birmingham Southern, Florida, Florida State, Furman, Kansas, LSU, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Nebraska, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and UCF. Auburn could be considered the favorite in its own tournament as it brings a No. 6 national ranking from Golfweek and No. 11 from Golfstat.

For the Golden Knights, they had their best showing of the season last weekend when they finished in a tie for fourth at the Lady Pirate Invitational. Conference USA's Co-Golfer of the Week, freshman Sara Hurwitch (Potomac Falls, Va.), earned UCF's top individual performance as she tied for fourth with a 220 (+4). Senior Kristy McLaughlin (Wasaga Beach, Ont.) also shined, setting a personal low at UCF of 73 (+1) in the final round.

Live scoring of the Auburn Derby will be available at www.golfstat.com. And for the latest news and information on the Golden Knights, tickets or apparel log on to www.ucfathletics.com - the official site for UCF athletics.
