Orlando, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - With two tournaments left before the spring schedule rolls around, the UCF women's golf team travels to Greenville, N.C., this weekend for the Lady Pirate Fall Invitational. East Carolina serves as the host for the event, which will be held at the par-72 Bradford Creek Golf & Country Club Friday-Sunday.
Joining UCF in the field include: Alabama, Augusta State, Appalachian State, Birmingham-Southern, host East Carolina, East Tennessee State, Elon, Gardner-Webb, Georgetown, High Point, Longwood, Maryland, Methodist College, Old Dominion, Radford, UNC-Greensboro, UTEP, Western Carolina and Winthrop.
The Golden Knights have participated in two very difficult tournaments so far with a senior, a sophomore and three freshmen competing in each one. Senior Holly Boot (Naples, Fla./Barron Collier) has carded two rounds in the 70s, and sophomore Mayule Tomimbang (Kissimmee, Fla./Gateway) was UCF's top finisher at the Kentucky Wildcat Invitational, placing in a tie for 16th.
Meanwhile, freshmen Leigh Crosby (Athens, Ga.), Sara Hurwitch (Potomac Falls, Va.) and Victoria Tomko (Lontzen, Belgium) are all performing well in just their first collegiate seasons. Crosby leads the team with a 79.67 stroke average, Hurwitch posted UCF's best individual round with a two-over 74 in Kentucky and Tomko recorded a 78 in the final round of the NCAA Fall Preview in Daytona Beach, Fla.
