Golden Knights Excel in the Classroom

Sept. 6, 2006

ORLANDO - In 2006, the UCF softball team excelled in the classroom in addition to the field, as several Golden Knights earned academic honors. As a team, the softball program recorded a team grade point average of 3.15 this past spring.

In May, 13 softball players were recognized when Conference USA announced its academic honors. Four Golden Knights - Kacie Feaster, Cat Snapp, Kaliela Sprague and Ashley Van Ryn - earned the C-USA Commissioner's Academic Medal with a GPA of 3.75 or better.

An additional nine UCF players were named to the C-USA Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll. Nicole Balogh, Lindsay Dean, Shelly Frick, Lexi Gresham, Breanne Javier, Amber Lamb, Lauren Martin, Magon Paul and Brittany Walters all were recognized for having a GPA of 3.0 or better.

"As a staff, we are proud that our student-athletes are succeeding in the classroom," said UCF head coach Renee Luers-Gillispie. "We expect our players to be true student-athletes and success in the classroom translates into success on the playing field."

Under Luers-Gillispie, UCF players have earned league academic honors on 44 occasions. Additionally, a Golden Knight has earned ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District recognition three times.
