EL PASO, Texas - Kacie Feaster went 2-for-3 with a home run and a single as the UCF softball team defeated UTEP, 2-0, Sunday afternoon at the Helen of Troy Softball Field. The Golden Knights improved to 19-32 on the season and 4-17 in Conference USA, while the Miners fell to 21-29 and 6-11.
With two outs in the top of the second, Feaster hit her team-leading fifth home run of the season over the fence in straight away center field.
UTEP threatened to even the score in the home half of the second and the fifth when the team had runners at third both times, but were unable to produce the necessary run.
The Golden Knights added a second run in the seventh inning after Magon Paul led off the inning with a walk. Paul was replaced on the base path with Jennifer Tomasetti. Tomasetti advanced to second on a Cat Snapp sacrifice bunt. Feaster then singled to second base to give UCF runners at first and second with one out. Ashley Van Ryn singled up the middle, scoring Tomasetti to make the score 2-0 in favor of the Golden Knights.
Allison Kime pitched seven innings for UCF, giving up no runs on three hits with eight strikeouts. Megan Barber pitched the complete game for UTEP, giving up two runs on six hits with two strikeouts.
The Golden Knights return to the UCF Softball Complex on May 2 to host Florida State in a mid-week doubleheader. First pitch is set for 5:30 p.m. Tickets for all home games are available at the gate, $5 for adults and $3 for senior citizens and children 5-17.
