Annabel Silk shot a career-best even-par 72 Tuesday as UCF tied for third at the Conference USA Women's Golf Championship at Ironwood Golf and Country Club. Host East Carolina won the event by 10 shots over SMU while UCF moved up one spot in the final standings and tied Tulsa, 15 shots behind ECU.
"It was a great week for the girls," UCF coach Emilee Klein said. "They were a little nervous today, but they fought through it and played well in tough scoring conditions."
East Carolina's Lene Krog won medalist honors at even-par 216 after shooting a 2-under 70 in the final round. She was the only player in the field to break par Tuesday. She finished one stroke ahead of SMU's Jennifer Ackerson and three ahead of C-USA Golfer of the Year Stacey Tate from Memphis.
All five players in UCF's lineup finished in the top 20 in the individual standings, led by Ashley Grier, who shot a 4-over 76 Tuesday and tied for seventh.
Kristy McLaughlin shot a 6-over 78 and tied for 14th, while Jessica Trein and Holly Boot shot identical 7-over 79s and tied for 16th.
Silk made the biggest move in the individual standings Tuesday, climbing into a tie for 20th after beginning the day tied for 33rd. She made three birdies during the round, chipping in on the 11th hole and rolling in six-foot putts on the sixth and 18th holes.
Four of the five in the UCF lineup matched or bettered their lowest round of the year and three matched or bettered their lowest 54-hole total of the year. In addition to recording its lowest round of the year as a team Monday, UCF's team total of 902 is 12 shots lower than any previous team score this season and is the third-lowest in school history.
"We were able to break a lot of personal and team scoring barriers so it was a great way for them to finish the season," Klein said. "For each of them to finish in the top 20 shows that we had great production throughout the entire lineup this week. I'm very proud of them."
At a post-tournament banquet it was announced that Boot, Grier and McLaughlin all earned third-team All-C-USA honors for their performance throughout the year. The awards were voted on by the C-USA coaches.
